As of July 2025, CORE marks 15 years of supporting the global open access community through indexing and enriching research outputs. What began as a small-scale project has grown into the world’s largest open access indexing platform supporting over 10,000 repositories and journals, and making millions of full-text research outputs accessible to all.
Our anniversary campaign, CORE at 15: Together Building Open Access, Unlocking Global Knowledge, is both a celebration and a recommitment to the mission that drives us: enabling unrestricted, global access to research.
CORE remains a not-for-profit, community-governed infrastructure, shaped by the very institutions we serve. We’re proud to support a network of repositories working to make knowledge equitable, discoverable, and reusable.
As part of this celebration, we’ll be spotlighting the voices that have helped shape CORE and the broader open access movement.
“15 Voices for 15 Years” is a new interview and recognition series celebrating repository managers and institutions across the CORE community. Each story will highlight real-world contributions to open science, metadata innovation, and the future of open infrastructure.

While this anniversary is a moment to reflect, it is also a renewed commitment. Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing updates on the work CORE has done over the last 15 years including improvements to our services, infrastructure enhancements, and what we’ve learned from the repository community.
This campaign is more than a celebration. It’s about listening to what our community needs next, and continuing to build an open access future that is inclusive, sustainable, and technically robust.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to the next 15.
